Paul Schomburg, Chief


Chief Schomburg joined the Department in January 2000. In a short period of time, he obtained certification as both a firefighter and EMT and began ascending the ranks as an officer of our organization. During his tenure, Chief Schomburg has served in many roles including: Deputy Chief, Fire Captain, Fire Lieutenant, Trustee, Meeting Hall Coordinator, Website Administrator. He has also served as Volunteer Coordinator to Arlington County from 2002 to 2007.

Chief Schomburg has completed certifications in Officer 2, Instructor 2, and Emergency Medical Technician. He provides instruction to new members of the department so that they may obtain their own certifications in structural firefighting. Additionally, he provides training to citizens such as members of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), who train to assist first responders in the event of a large-scale disaster.

Our Chief holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Marymount University in Arlington, VA. He also has a Master of Business Administration from American University in Washington, D.C.

On September 11 and 12, 2001, as a Lieutenant with the FCVFD, Chief Schomburg assisted with operations at the Pentagon, establishing intial firefighter rehabilitation, providing air replenishment of firefighter breathing apparatus, and removing millions of gallons of water from the facility.

Outside of the fire service, Chief Schomburg works as a management consultant for ICF International, L.L.C., providing program and acquisition management services to agencies within the federal government.

Originally from Itasca, Illinois, Chief Schomburg has lived in Northern Virginia since 1987. He and his wife Kelly reside in McLean, Virginia.
